Jean Olivia Hunsaker Spiegel Dailey
Jean Olivia Hunsaker Spiegel Dailey died on Feb. 23, 2011.
Jean was born in Meeker, CO to Dr. Ernest Day and Edith Hunsaker. Seven years later her brother, Ernie Hunsaker, was born. They settled in Nampa, ID where Jean lived nearly half of her life. Jean met and married Donald Raymond Spiegel in 1944. A war bride, she had her first son, Paul, while Don was deployed to the South Pacific. Jean and Don had three more children, Phillip, Karon and Ricka. The family moved from Nampa in l960. In 1962, their rental home burnt down and they lost most possessions and pictures. They loved their five years in Port Angeles. Sadly, Don died of cancer in l970, at the age of 46. Jean moved to Vancouver, WA to be near her older children and grandchildren. There she met and married Weston Joseph Dailey. They were married 32 years until his passing in 2004. Jean was an artist, painter, competitive photographer, an avid reader, and worked as a florist. She volunteered at Fort Vancouver Historical Site for many years. After retirement, Jean and Wes went on 26 Elder Hostel trips and many other travels. They built the first passive solar home in Clark County and their yard and gardens were featured in periodicals. A devoted wife, Jean tenderly cared for both spouses until their demise. Jean was a loving daughter, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother to many. She will be remembered for her great laugh and her positive attitude.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, brother, spouses and her eldest son. Jean is survived by her son, Phillip Spiegel; her daughters, Karon Anderson and Ricka Palmrose; eleven grandchildren; and eight plus great-grandchildren.
