Tony Ignatz Flax was born March 13, 1928 in Ellis County, KS, to Albert Sr. and Elizabeth (Aschenbrenner) Flax. He passed away Thurs. Oct. 4, 2001 in Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney, KS, at the age of 73.

Tony attended rural Trego Co. schools. On Dec. 1, 1950 Tony was inducted into the Army of the United States. He served his country during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 30, 1952.

On Nov. 26, 1955 Tony was united in marriage with Caroline Pfeifer at St. Peter, KS. She survives of the home.

Tony was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church of Collyer. He was also a member of Randall Reid VFW Post #3449, and American Legion Moore Post #197, both of WaKeeney. He was a past member of the Sunflower Polka Club. Tony enjoyed going to car races, dancing the polka, and collecting small tractors. He was a farmer and stockman.

Other survivors include three sons: Anthony, Kenneth and wife Connie, and Francis and friend Peggy Lang, all of WaKeeney; a daughter Carolyn Wolf and husband Wesley of Haven; 7 grandchildren: John Wolf, Travis Flax, Michelle Wolf, Mindy Flax, Tyson Flax, Melanie Flax and Barbie Flax; 5 brothers: Phillip Flax of Elis, Clarence Flax of Dodge City, Alfred Flax of WaKeeney, Lawrence Flax of Salina, and Albert Flax Jr. of Ellis; six sisters: Elizabeth Lang and Teresa Gnad of Hays, Rosie Burns of Wichita, Anna Pfeifer of WaKeeney, Agnes Burns of Brighton, CO, and Freda Dietz of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elizabeth Flax; his step-mother Rosie Augustine; and three brothers, John, Joe and William Flax.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 am Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Collyer with Fathers Donald F. Pfannenstiel and Basil Torrez co-celebrating. Burial was in Christ the King Cemetery, WaKeeney.
