Jesse L. James, 66, Monte Vista, died Thursday at his home in Monte Vista. He was born March 1, 1923 in Little Rock, Arkansas to John and Ivena McMillan James. He married Elsie Mae Martinez. They lived for a while in Del Norte and Creede. They had just moved to Monte Vista Jan. 6.
He was a mechanic, heavy equipment operator and construction worker. He did some ranching and worked in uranium mines. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being in the mountains with his family and hunting arrowheads.
Surviving is his wife; sons, Mike James, Del Norte; Jesse D. James, Canon City; Bruce James, South Fork; Jody and Kim James, Kremmling; three daughters, Betty Jo Burt, Center; Bonnie Jean Mahannah and Peggy lee Naranjo, Monte Vista; two brothers, Jack and Darrell James; two stepbrothers, Ray and Junior; a sister, Faye Durant, Denver; fourteen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Olme and Sharp Memorial Chapel in Del Norte with Ed Hardaway and Charlotte Fuchs officiating. Burial was in the Del Norte cemetery.
