FARMINGTON, IL - David Alan Wake, age 77, a resident of Hemet, Calif., for 14 years, and formerly of Farmington, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at home.

Born to Richard and Viola (Abel) Wake on Sept. 4, 1933, in Farmington, Ill., David graduated from Farmington High School in 1951.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956, after which he attended several colleges, the University of Illinois and Bradley among them. He graduated from California State College Los Angeles in 1963 with a B.A. in math.

He taught math at high schools and community colleges, most recently at Mount San Jacinto Community College, San Jacinto, Calif. Earlier in his career, he taught in Townsend, Mont., San Jose, Calif., and Fairbanks, Alaska.

While living in Anchorage, Alaska, he had a small appliance parts business for 11 years.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Kathleen (Haskell) Wake, whom he married on Dec. 23, 1960; and his four children, daughters, Kelly Green of Big Lake, Alaska, Kristy Bovee of Anchorage, Alaska, Karen Ellis of Steward, Ill., and son, Donald R. Wake of Round Rock, Texas. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Leland Wake of Peoria, Ill.; sisters, Mary Page of Canton, Ill., Judy Thurman of Fairview, Ill., and Margie Plumer of Farmington, Ill.; and brother-in-law, Robert Haskell of Hemet, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Viola Wake; and three brothers, Arnold, Donald and William Wake.
