Thelma Florence Cheney Briscoe, 98, returned to her Heavenly Father's arms Wednesday, April 14, 2010 of natural causes.

She was born November 18, 1911 in Wapello, Idaho, Bingham County, to Selar Edward and Florence Harriet (Allen) Cheney, the third child of eight children. Thelma was raised in Idaho and lived in Wapello, Kimberly, Hibbard, Archer and Pocatello. She attended school in Kimberly, Hibbard and Archer.

Her hobbies were quilt making and crocheting. She loved music and beautiful sun rises and sun sets. She also loved flowers and would make crepe paper flowers and flowers made from dyed nylon stocking stretched over wire.
Thelma worked outdoors herding and milking cows, helping to put up hay and gather in the crops. She also took care of elderly ladies.

She met and later married George P. Briscoe on April 16, 1937 in the Logan Temple. She worked in Pocatello cleaning house and caring for their children. They had eight children: Opal May Briscoe, Pahrump, NV, Lourna Dean Hartley, Pocatello, ID, Georgia Lee Jensen, Pocatello, ID, Larry Dale Briscoe, Scenic, AZ, Glen Cheney (Elda) Briscoe, Scenic, AZ, Laly Marlene (Willis) Young, Jerico Springs, MO and Leroy George Briscoe, Scenic, AZ. She was blessed with 33 grandchildren, 80 great grandchildren and 34 great-great grandchildren.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, a great-great grandson, and her parents, brothers, Marion, Theron, Albert and Elmo Cheney, sisters, Opal Christensen, Eva Tyler and Afton Cheney.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Tyhee 7th Ward, corner of Tyhee and Moonglow, with Bishop Paul Bastian, officiating. A viewing will be held Sunday evening, April 18, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave, Pocatello and again from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
