Richard enlisted for Civil War army service in Company C, 103rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Aug. 8, 1862, as a private, at Cleveland, Ohio(Cuyahoga County), for a term of 3 years. Occupation: Farmer. He was listed as residing in Avon Twp. with one child as a dependent. He was appointed corporal, Jan. 13, 1863 and was transferred to Company F, 23rd Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps, Oct. 14, 1863. His name is on Panel #13 in the Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, Public Square, Cleveland, Ohio. See www.soldiersandsailors.com.
