Reverend Jabez W. Almon went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2008, surrounded by his family that loved him dearly. Dad was born in a log cabin east of Seminole OK on May 24, 1923; and while life was difficult during those early years, he shared with his family many wonderful memories of his childhood.

He was preceded in death by his father John Henry Almon, mother Mary Elizabeth Almon, and brother Harry Ross Almon.

He leaves the love of his life, Wanda Lee Almon; daughter Dixie Rider and husband Jerry of Purcell OK; son Stephen Almon and wife Connie of Jones OK; sister Mary Francis Davis of Paden OK; brothers Odell Almon of North Little Rock AR, and Harold Almon of Marlow OK; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren Misti, Buffy, Haley, Casey, Lori, Joie, and Jamie, and was a wonderful influence on them as well as his great-grandchildren Torie, Joey, Luke, Lane, Tiffany, Taegan, Kyle, Daniel, Christopher, Garret, Savannah, Alex, and Gracie.

Dad served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, assigned to the 509th Composite Group. He married his sweetheart, Wanda Breshears, on March 5, 1948, celebrating their 60 years of marriage while he was in the hospital.

Dad served in the ministry of his Lord and Savior for over 48 years, pastoring churches throughout Oklahoma, with the last church he served as pastor being Concord Missionary Baptist Church in Norman OK. While serving as a husband, father, and pastor, Dad also worked at Tinker Air Force Base and retired after 33 years of civil service. Everyone that had the privilege to know this man has been impacted by his love for the Lord, his love for his family, and the kindness that he showed everyone. His smile and loving spirit will be missed.

Services will be on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at 2:30 p.m., at Barnes & Friederich Funeral Home, 1820 S. Douglas Blvd., Midwest City, followed by a graveside service at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole.
