Austin Bowles, 84, former resident of the Del Norte community and father of two Del Norte women, died at Derby, Colorado Friday. Funeral services were held at the Del Norte Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Alexander Bryans in charge. Burial was made in the Del Norte cemetery.
Austin Bowles was born in Greenfield, Missouri April 2, 1850. On February 9, 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Alice C. McInturff, near Greenfield. Five children were born to this union.
In 1898, Mr. Bowles moved with his family to Lamar, Colorado and later came to the San Luis Valley, settling on a ranch near Del Norte. After thirteen years residence here, he moved to Englewood and in 1918 to Derby. Mr. Bowles was a pioneer stockman and continued to take a deep interest in cattle and ranch work until his death.
Mr. Bowles was the youngest and last surviving member of his family. He is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. A. V. Stephenson and Mrs. Glenn O. Cochran of Del Norte, Mrs. Ethel Winters of Los Angeles, California; a son, Richard is deceased. He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
