She married a local fellow, Jewel Simpson Blackmon, Oct. 2, 1943 in Cheyenne, OK. The couple lived briefly in Ellis Co., OK from where they moved to a farm near Durham, OK. Yet another move took the Blackmons to Borger, TX. A relocaion to Rio Grande Co., CO in the mid 1960s gave the children an opportunity to attend Del Norte High School.
Two daughters and one son were born to Jewel and Bonnie Blackmon.
Bonnie loved music and was gifted with a lovely voice. She is remembered for her participation in a small group of carolers that enjoyed singing for others during the Christmas season in bright red costumes.
Excerpts from Bonnie's obituary (Del Norte Prospector, 19 Dec 1990) follow: "Bonnie Blackmon, 64, De Norte, died last Wednesday at San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa. She was born April 6, 1926 in Durham, Oklahoma to Charles Bradford and Lillie Mae Talkington Aubrey. She was a hostess, cashier, and caterer in the food service business. In her spare time she enjoyed crafts and visiting with people. She was also a doll collector. She is survived by a son....., two daughters........., a brother, .........a sister, ......, 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held Friday at the Olme and Sharp Memorial Chapel with Rev. Patricia Pabst officiating. Burial was in the Del Norte cemetery."
