Well-known local photographer Warren L. Miller died Saturday February 17, 2007 in Front Royal following a lengthy illness.

Warren was born at Dismal Hollow near Linden on January 22, 1941, the son of the late Hilbert Lee and Hazel Elizabeth Wines Miller. It was claimed that Warren possessed a fierce independence and ingenuity at birth, traits that would serve him throughout his life's many roles.

At the age of 12, Warren was a contributing player on the 1953 Front Royal Little League World Series team during which he hit the longest home run in the series' history at the old stadium. He later would play on the Front Royal Babe Ruth Championship teams and on the Front Royal American Legion State Championship team in 1957 and State Runner up team in 1958. He also was an enthusiastic member in high school sports throughout his high school career and played both on the Warren County High School basketball and baseball teams lettering every year.
Warren's athletic career advanced following his graduation from Warren County Educational Foundation in 1959 when he was drafted to play AAA baseball for the Baltimore Orioles. He later became a member of the Cleveland Indians Organization until he was drafted yet again by the U. S. Army.

After being trained as a communication specialist, his skill at playing baseball was soon recognized and he was deployed to the Army's 25th Infantry Division at Scholfield Barracks near Honolulu, Hawaii to play for the Army baseball team. The Army's persuasions could not hold him for long; however, since he was drawn back to Front Royal one last time when he was honorably discharged from duty and left Hawaii in the late fall of 1965 just days prior to his division pulling out for Vietnam.

Warren's call back to his hometown led him back not only to his family but also to his future wife, Janice, whom he married on Jun 26, 1966. Having started a family, he sought out a career in the sciences at Avtex and later with DuPont, but often found himself with a camera in hand.

While he had been away from his beloved Virginia, he realized that he had taken for granted the paradise here in the Shenandoah Valley with the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains enveloping his hometown and the beautiful Shenandoah River running through it. Upon returning home, he soon found himself enjoying his favorite fishing spots along the Shenandoah River, and spending many hours enjoying the beauty of the Skyline Drive and capturing the beauty surrounding him with his camera. That hobby later would turn into a full-time career. Warren would make his mark on the community through his excellence not only in landscape, wildlife and wedding photography, but also in sports photography, placing him back on the ball field once more.

Besides his parents, Warren was predeceased by one brother, Larry Carver Miller (1937 - 1999)of Manassas who is buried in the Miller Plot at Prospect Hill.

Warren's life lives on through his wife Janice, their children, Mary Miller Kenney (her husband James E. Kenney, III) and Lisa Miller, through his grandchildren Jordan Elizabeth Kenney and Madelyn Leigh Kenney, and through his photographs that grace every scrapbook, wall, and mantel in Front Royal, Warren County, and the greater Shenandoah.

His brother, Larry Carver Miller's widow, Faye Wetzel Miller of Manassas, VA and her daughter Sharon also survive.

Maddox Funeral Home transported Warren to the University of Virginia for autopsy and research. Cremation will follow and burial of his ashes will be at a later date at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Front Royal, VA and will be private.

Memorial Services to celebrate Warren Miller's life was held Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Marlow Heights Baptist Church at 11 AM. Rev. James Bunce, pastor of the church led the memorial service and Michael Berryman of South Hill, VA, a former classmate and teammate, delivered the eulogy. The Miller family home in Front Royal will be open to receive family and friends at anytime.

The family has requested that donations to honor Warren's life be made to the Warren County Athletic Association for the Warren Miller Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship fund will provide for a deserving Warren County student in athletics and/or photography through the Warren County Athletic Association. Additionally, memorial contributions may be sent to the Memories Disorders Clinic – UVA Department of Neurology in Warren's memory to: 500 Ray C. Hunt Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22903 Attention: Paula Damgaard.
