Survivors include his widow, Ruby, Island View Route; three daughters, Mrs. John (Norma) Bethke, Oak Lawn, IL; Mrs. Harold (Lorraine) Shearer, Duluth, MN and Mrs. Orlando (Evelyn) Torblaa, Grafton, ND; four sons, James, Oroville, CA; Pat, the Falls; Dan, Azalea, OR and Thomas, Grand Rapids, MN; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Earl, of Brooks, OR; Mike and Ed, both of Salem, OR; three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Buckmaster and Mrs. Doris Borath, both of Salem, OR and Mrs. Ann Gaub, Vancouver, WA; two step-daughters, Mrs. Ferdinand (Zelma) Golnick, the Falls and Mrs. William (Frances) Salminen, Butte, MT; three step-sons, Raymond Davis, Brewster, WA; James Davis, Tonasket, WA; Arlie Davis, Butte, MT; 17 step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Evangelical Covenant Church with the Rev. George Wold officiating. Visitation at the Cudmore Funeral Home will begin at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
He was born July 6, 1896, in Norcross, Minnesota. At the age of two, he moved with his parents to a farm near Eagle Bend, Minnesota. When he was 17, the family moved to another farm in Wadena County, Minnesota. He helped with the farming until 1918 when he entered the U.S. Army. Following his discharge in 1919 from the U.S. Army 125th Engineers, he farmed four more years. He then moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. In 1926 he and his family came to the Falls where he began with the construction crew in the insulate machine room, later becoming a truck driver. In 1933 he transferred to the finishing room and in 1947 joined the guard force.
