AUGUSTA - Herbert Francis Stevens, Jr., 74, of Water Street, Hallowell died Thursday morning at a local nursing home following a long illness.

He was born July 19, 1903, in Oakland, the son of Herbert F. and Maude Young Stevens.

He had been proprietor of several antique stores in the Augusta-Hallowell area. He was a charter member and first president of the Maine Auctioneers Association and member of the Augusta Spriritualist Church and the Maine and National Spiritual Association.

He is survived by five sons, William Y. Stevens, West Gardiner, Horace F. Stevens, Windsor, Owen R. Stevens, Augusta, O. Jacob Stevens, Gardiner, Earl C. Stevens, Lynchburg, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Fuller, Augusta, Miss Amy M. Stevens, Milwaukee, Wisc., Mrs. Robert Nay, Richmond; a brother Stanley Stevens, Augusta; two sisters, Mrs. Roy MacWilliams, Portland, Mrs. Kenneth Willett, Auburn; 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. today from 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterville at 10 a.m. Saturday.
