Opal was born on October 24, 1926 to Ruth and Andrew Malik of Milliken, Colorado. She graduated from Milliken, CO in 1944. Opal was employed at the post office in Milliken until 1948 when she married Ralph Wetzbarger of Loveland, CO. They were married in Fort Collins, CO on May 15, 1948.
They lived most of their lives on the Front Range, but moved to Clifton, CO in May of 1992.
Ralph preceded Opal in death on Dec 20, 1993; also preceding her in death were her parents; 2 sisters (Grace & Norma); 3 brothers (James “Buddy”, Leo, Delbert); and daughters-in-law Carmen “Linda” Wetzbarger and Linda Wetzbarger.
Survivors include two sons Gary (Diana) Wetzbarger of Erie, CO and Michael Wetzbarger of Firestone, CO. Also surviving is one sister Lois Vohs of Eaton, CO; one Brother Ivan Malik of Loveland, CO; five grandchildren Angela, Greg, Andrew, Karen & Kyle. Nine great-grandchildren & six great-great-grandchildren.
Opal was very proud to be a Colorado Native and was very pleased when she got to acquire her “Pioneer” license plate.
She enjoyed all kinds of sports and was an avid bowler and referred to herself as a “Sports addict and Christmas Nut”
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 10:30am at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel 326 Terry Street, Longmont, CO 80501.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, January 15, 2021 at 11:30am at New Elmwood Cemetery 1175 17 ¼ Road, Fruita, CO 81521.
