Lucy was born Lucy Ann Northcutt. She was the daughter of preacher Andrew Duncan Northcutt and Salena (Masterson). She married George William Adams on November 20, 1858. Their children were sons James Adams (who died in infancy), Charles O. Adams, Wilbur D. Adams and daughters Elizabeth W. (Beaumont) and Salena I. (Dedman). Her sister Mary Elizabeth Northcutt also married into the Adams family, marrying Randall R. Adams. After a divorce, Lucy married Luke Messick on September 1, 1870 and had several more children including Vaughn, Wallie, Jack Klesson, Elmer, Edith (Decker), Laura (Paine) and Mary (Peel). She died in Moweaqua, Illinois at the age of 77. Her grave and that of her husband Luke are unmarked, next to their daughter Mary in the Messick family plot.
