Death of the Pioneer Minister at his home near Blue Mound.

At his home near Blue Mound, Elder A.D. Northcut, died on Tuesday morning, June 3, at 4 o'clock. His death resulted from paralysis of the throat an a blood clot on the brain, after an illness of about two weeks. The deceased was 77 years old and was one of the pioneer preachers of the section in which he lived. He was a native of Kentucky, being born near Mt. Sterling, in 1813.

When 22 years old he married a Miss Hathway and this union three children were born - two daughters and a son.

The daughters, Mary and Lucy, live in Christian county.

The son, Harrison, has not been heard of by the family for years and was in Texas the last known of him.

Elder Northcutt came to Christian County Illinois in 1853, and has since been a farmer and a preacher in and about Blue Mound. He was first a member of the Baptist Church, but early in life became a convert to the Christian faith and labored in that field all his life.

His first wife died in 1845 and in 1850 he married Miss Mary Hammer, a sister of W. O. Hammer of Decatur. She and her seven children survive him. Four sons, Fred, James, Will and Jessie live in Colorado. Two daughters, Mrs. Scribner and Mrs. Firey live in Christian County; the third, Mrs. Whitmeyer, lives in Forrest.

About twelve years ago the deceased gave up farming and devoted his life to the ministry. Fifteen years ago he was for one year pastor of the Christian Church in Decatur. His principal work was at Dingman Church and the Sunders Church near Niantic and at Shaws Point, Macoupin County.

The funeral services took place from the Christian Church in Blue Mound at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning and the remains were interred in the Long Point Cemetery, near Niantic.
