Youngest child of the 12 children born to Don Francisco de Haro and Emiliana de los Reyes Sanchez.

His mother died shortly after his birth, and his twin brothers Francisco and Ramon de Haro were murdered when he was not quite four years old. His father died when he was seven years old.

He was married in 1865 to Mary E. Miller, an Irish American born in upstate New York. They were married 45 years.

He outlived his wife Mary, as did three of their nine children: Frank de Haro, Victor de Haro, and Carlotta "Lottie" Justina de Haro Adamson.

His other children included Isabel Marie de Haro (died January 29, 1904), and Mrs. Maude B. Kirk (died either 1904 or 1905, married to Edward P. Kirk).

His grandchildren included Bonita Geraldine Adamson de la Roza and Frances C. Adamson.
