Loren Gale "Gale" Johnson, age 87, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009. Born March 14, 1922, the son of the late Myron E. and Edith (Kelly) Johnson. After graduating from Grandview High School in 1940, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He flew 30 missions over Germany in a B-17 as lead pilot in the 388th bomb group of the 8th Air Force and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a test pilot for a year before being discharged as a Major. Gale received a BS degree in accounting from The Ohio State University in 1948 and was recalled into the U.S. Air Force to serve in the Korean War. He retired from Battelle Memorial Institute after 35 years. Gale is survived by his wife of 64 years, Martha L.; sons, Jeffrey L. (Kathryn Haller), Dr. Scott W. (Susan) and Christopher N. (Wendy); grandchildren, Benjamin, Andrew (Chinn Wang), Adam, Wesley, Lisa, David and Lewis; sisters, Jo Ann (John) Fisher, Patricia (Norman) Gatsch; brother, Neil D.; and ten nieces and nephews. Private burial Union Cemetery. Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., where family will receive friends at a reception in Brownlee Hall immediately following the service. Rev. James M. Long officiating. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to HomeReach Hospice, c/o Ohio Health Foundation, 180 E.
