Richard Zack "Dick" Bailey was born on February 15, 1907 to Sanders Zachariah "Zach" and Effie Caroline (Smith) Bailey in Lamar County, Texas. He married Edrie Verona Caldwell on August 20, 1933. Three children were born to this union: Richard Frank (5/28/1934), Jerry David (10/17/1940) and Mary Caroline (12/16/1948).


Dick and Edrie lived in Quanah, TX, Vernon, TX, Stamford, TX, Altus, OK, and Chickasha, OK.


Dick was a well-respected cotton buyer and retired after a long and successful career with the cotton division of Anderson, Clayton and Co. Before his retirement, his assigned territory extended through west Texas to Lubbock and included all of Oklahoma. He was the first Texan to be named president of the Oklahoma Cotton Association.


Dick and Edrie lived in Vernon, Texas from 1958 until Dick's passing in 1990.


His survivors included six grandchildren: Richard A. Bailey, David Bailey, Andrew Bailey, Elisabeth Estes Essary, Jon Michael Estes, and Caroline Caldwell Haviland.
