Odis Raymond (Brownie) Brown, 90, retired pastor, passed away November 10, 2011. Odis was born May 25, 1921, in Kiowa, KS, to Gaines P. Brown and Florence A. (Pruitt) Brown. He graduated from Medicine Lodge, KS High School and Bethany Nazarene College in 1949. An athlete, he starred in track, basketball, football, and planned to be a coach. He received all kinds of awards and letters and was presented with the Best Sportsman Trophy, He served as ladies basketball coach. At Bethany College Church, he served as youth pastor. In 1944, he married Alta Irene Eastman. Following college, he pastored churches in Larned and Eureka, KS. A son, Lonnie Ray, and daughter, Aldena Florence, were added to their family. He moved to Kansas City, MO, and graduated from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1959 with BD degree. But while there, Alta, went to be with the Lord. In 1958, he married Jean Brown, of KC. He pastored in Minnesota, Missouri, and Illinois. During pastoral years, he served as Chaplain for Civil Air Patrol in Marion, Carmi, and Granite City, IL. In 1979, he retired from the pastorate and worked at the Nazarene Publishing House from 1979 to 1987, where he also worked during his Seminary years. He taught an Interdenominational Bible study for 12 years at Heritage House Retirement Complex, where they lived for 28 years. Odis leaves one brother, Leland Brown, of Salina, KS, and two sisters, Pauline Johnson, Oklahoma City, and Wanda Harris, Wathena, KS; son, Lonnie Ray (Helen), Oklahoma City; daughter, Aldena, of Park City, Utah; grandchildren, Gaines Paul and Wendy Brown; great grandchildren: Malorie, Nicole, and Peyton, of Oklahoma City; and a host of nephews and nieces and many beloved friends. Visitation will begin at 12 noon with funeral services following at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 19800 E. Truman Rd., Independence, MO. Burial will be in Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO. (Arrangements: Park Lawn Funeral Home, 816-523-1234).
