James King Wright was born December 15, 1874, in White Plains, Greene County, Georgia, to Lorenzo Dow Wright and Mary J. Lewis. As he grew up, he did labor work, farmed and was a minister of the Nazarene Church.

His draft paper said he was tall, and stout, had brown eyes and black hair. James started heading west, going to Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona and ended up in California.

He had at least ten children, born in the various states. While in Arizona, in 1928, he homesteaded 200 acres of land in Northern Arizona, on Garland Prairie, Coconino County. He and his son, William F. Wright, put in a farm on this land. Farming was a hard and risky job, since the seasons were so short and water was scarce.

This place has been known down through the years as, "the old Preacher Wright place" and probably still is today. In the 30's of the Great Depression, only renters lived at the old place. We never met the Wright's when my family lived on Garland Prairie in the 1930's. James lost a son in 1911, due to diabetis.

He is buried on the homestead, in the back yard, along with a little 4 year old niece, daughter of William Franklin Wright. Preacher Wright and family moved to California. He died in San Bernardino on November 3, 1959. He was buried in San Bernardino, but we cannot find him in any cemetery there. It seems a good many cemeteries have been abandoned or destroyed.
