Mrs. Marsh was born Jan. 20, 1937, in Pryor to Rufus and Lorena (Moore) Harless. She departed this life on Oct. 20, 2009, in Claremore at the age of 72 years and 9 months.
Shirley had lived in Claremore for about the last nine years; she also had lived in Pryor and Collinsville. She was married to Bill Marsh on Nov. 6, 1970, at the First Baptist Church in Pryor; he preceded her in death in September 1999. Shirley had attended Draugn's School of Business. She was the bookkeeper for two machine shops that she and Bill owned in Pryor and Claremore. During the Viet Nam War Shirley worked at soldering radio transceivers. She was very diligent doing this because she knew that the radios were going to be used during the war and she did not want anything to go wrong with them while our soldiers were using them. Shirley was a very hard worker and any job she did she was meticulous. She enjoyed gardening and loved spending time on the water, whether it was boating or fishing. Shirley liked to cook for her family and friends. Spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was very important to her.
Shirley is survived by sons Karl and Luz Saffell of Arlington, Virginia, Wayne and Amanda Marsh of Claremore, daughter Sandy and Tommy McFarland, Pryor, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, sister Florene VanZant of Claremore, sister Sue Stogsdill of Grove. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters and one great granddaughter.
In lieu of other remembrances donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
Betty will lie in state starting at 9 a.m. Friday morning until service time at 10 a.m.
