William Hagen Dies Suddenly While Crossing Street Near Home

William A. Hagen, well-known Rogers City resident, dropped dead of heart disease at two-thirty o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, June 7th (1933), while crossing the street from his home, 170 E Ontario Street, to the home of his mother, Mrs. Bertha Hopp at 365 South Second Street. He was almost forty-eight years old.

Mr. Hagen had been ill for the past few months and had been failing gradually but his condition was not considered serious.

He was born in Crawford's Quarry July 21, 1885, and later lived in Hagensville with his parents. When a young man he moved to Rogers City and eighteen years ago and eighteen years ago was married to Miss Gertrude Bredow at Section 12 (St. John Lutheran Church, Hagensville). During his residence in Rogers City and until about two years ago he was employed by the Michigan Limestone and Chemical Company.

(Mr. Hagen) is survived by the widow and three daughters Irene, 17 years old, Elna 16, and Alva* 10, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Bertha Hopp and one half-brother Alfred Hopp..

Funeral Services were held on Saturday afternoon (June 10, 1933) at two o'clock from the house and at two thirty o'clock from St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rev Louis Linn officiating. Interment was in Rogers City cemetery..

Pallbearers were A.E. Krueger, A.L. Sorgenfrei, Robert Patzer, William Haselhuhn, John Bruning and Ernest Hallbauer. The Misses Bernetta LaLonde, Helen Tank, Ruth Hein, Emma Ross, Marian Rieger and Myrtle Weiss were flower girls.

Undertaker E.K. Shirtum had charge of the funeral arrangements..
