Survivors include wife, Hazel Lee Rouse Higgins Tipton, daughter Cynthia Grzyb of Dudley, MA, son Scott Tipton of Apex, NC and grandson Jacob Grzyb, step-daughter Amy Higgins of High Point NC, step-son John Higgins of Winston-Salem, NC, step-grandchildren Connor Higgins, Lauryn Higgins, Amber Wood and Allie Dorman. Also surviving are brothers Richard Tipton (Martha), of Stockton, CA and Jim Tipton (Bonnie), of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannie Shidler, of Kansas City, KS.
David was a graduate of Bob Jones University, in Greenville, SC with a Liberal Arts degree. He retired from High Point Furniture and was currently employed with Kerr Drug in High Point. David was a devoted Carolina Tarheels fan and was known for his jokes and a story for every occasion.
He was a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church, High Point and enjoyed his mission trips to Lithuania and loved his Fairfield church family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 12, at Fairfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Jill Auman officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairfield United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 11, from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale. His family requests memorials be made to Fairfield UMC-Missions, 1505 NC Hwy. 62 W, High Point, NC 27263 in lieu of flowers.
