Services for Louie Edward Cheatham, 90, of Lufkin, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2011, in the Oakley-Metcalf Chapel, with Bro. Roy Barbe and Greg Hollis officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells.

Mr. Cheatham was born June 25, 1921 in Keltys, Angelina County, Texas. He was the son of the late Georgia Mae (Crawford) and Jessie James "J.J." Cheatham. His mother, Georgia Mae (Crawford) Cheatham passed away when Louie was very young, and he was raised by Nancy Jane Cheatham.

Mr. Cheatham retired as plant supervisor at Louisiana-Pacific. He was a good family man and enjoyed sitting on his porch, watching the birds and squirrels and feeding the coons. He was an avid hunter/fisherman and great outdoorsman and enjoyed camping. Mr. Cheatham served his country with the United States Army during World War II where he attained the rank of Private First Class. He was deployed to Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe, where he received the European-African Middle Eastern Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Louis Wayne and Louise Cheatham of Corrigan; Kelvin and Marsha Alsbrooks of Hudson, and James Alsbrooks of Houston; daughters and sons-in-law, Melba Rogers of Lufkin, Evelyn and Emmett Nichols of Pollok, Pamela and Roy barbe of Apple Springs and Corliss Forgey of Livingston; 21 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Liles of Huntington and Bernice McKnight of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Mr. Cheatham was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie (Howell) Cheatham; son, Eddie Gene Cheatham; and a number of brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home. Services are in the care of Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home.
