Marion grew up on a farm near Ashley, N.D., where her parents, John E. and Regina Olive (Jennie) Holm Johnson, first generation Americans whose own parents immigrated from Norway, raised Black Angus cattle. She attended Ellendale (ND)Normal School and earned a Teaching Certificate.

Marion married Chris Anhorn about 1932 in Ashely ND. They had two children - Christal Audrey Anhorn (1935-1974) and John Christopher Anhorn (b. 1945). Marion was an accomplished artist (a painter in oils, some of whose works hung in the ND State House) and golfer (winner of many Medalist prizes and regional Golf Championships in ND).

Early in their marriage Marion and Chris resided at the ND Tuberculosis Sanitorium in San Haven, where Chris was Director. Later, they farmed outside Fessenden, ND and eventually retired to the town.

Marion was a loving and generous mother and mother-in-law who has two grandchildren, Adrian and Evan Anhorn, she did not live to know.
