He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rachel Tafoya Apodaca; daughter Renee Apodaca Fernandez; parents Celestino and Guadalupita Ortiz Apodaca; brother Tony Apodaca; sisters Mary Hobbs and Lena Trujillo; brothers-in-law Joe Trujillo and Ramon Romero; father-in-law and mother-in-law Juan and Mary Escolastica Tafoya; brothers-in-law Arthur and Mike Tafoya; sisters-in-law Norma Apodaca and Dolores Apodaca.
He is survived by his loving son Rey J. Apodaca (Michelle); godson Marcos Tapia; daughters, Theresa (Daniel) Rougemont, Paula Apodaca Romero (Adrian), and Louise Apodaca (George); grandchildren Sonya (Leon) Moncayo, Diego (Amanda) Baca, Lucas Rougemont, Mathew Romero, Anthony Roybal, Amanda Romero, Monique Apodaca, and Dion and Gabriel Fernandez; great-grandchildren Adonica, Rhiannon, Alyce, Jordon, Elijah, Malakai, and Aliya; brothers Joe Apodaca, Eddie (Elvera) Apodaca, and Celestino (Junie) Apodaca, Jr.; sisters Dolores (Roy) Ingram, Helen Romero, Lucy Barela, and Viola Apodaca; brother-in-law Bob Hobbs; and other relatives too many to name.
His lifetime devotion to family, veteran organizations. and church became his passion in life. He loved track and playing football in his youth and was drafted to the Navy in 1952. He served in the Korean War on the USS Philippine Sera (CV 47), aircraft carrier. He married Rachel Tafoya of Taos NM and raised five children. Reyes served as Post Commander, Manager, bartender, board member and other offices within the V.F.W. Post 2951 and American Legion Post 1. He made it a point to visit many ill and disabled veterans around the state. He organized fun activities and fund raisers for the V.F.W. and American Legion members and their families. Reyes (coached Santa Fe Little League, men's and women's softball teams. His love and positive outlook for baseball brought women's softball to historical undefeated limits statewide. A devoted and committed catholic, he recently served as an usher at St. Anne's Catholic Church.
