Helen, a native and lifelong resident of Santa Fe, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Albuquerque. She was predeceased by parents Celestino and Guadalupita Apodaca; husband Ramon L. Romero; brothers: Tony Apodaca and Reyes Apodaca; sisters: Mary Hobbs and Lena Trujillo; and son-in-law Pastor Joe Romero.

Helen was survived by her children: Edwina Romero of Albuquerque, Chris Romero of La Mirada, California; Jim Romero (wife Karen) of Houston, Texas; Rick Romero (wife Patty) of Santa Fe, foster son Johnny MacHowell (wife Alicia) of Albuquerque, and foster daughter Hope Castañeda of Santa Fe; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings: Joe Apodaca of Santa Fe, Eddie Apodaca (wife Alvera) of Santa Fe, Dolores Ingram (husband Roy) of Pasco, Washington; Lucy Apodaca of Albuquerque, Viola Apodaca of Santa Fe, Celestino Apodaca Jr. of Santa Fe; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen will be remembered as a great mother, grandmother, and friend.

Visitation and Rosary were on April 24, 2013 at Berardinelli Family Funeral Services. On April 25, 2013, a Rosary and Mass of Christian burial were at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment followed in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
