Campaign in Angaur, Palau, a tiny volcanic island, three miles (4.8 km) long, separated from Peleliu by a six-mile strait. On 17 Sep the U.S. 81st Infantry Division commanded by Major General Paul J. Mueller landed on the northeast and southeast coasts. By 25 Sep the Americans had penetrated "the Bowl," and used bulldozers to seal cave entrances.
Served two years four months. Wounded 26 Sep 1944. Evacuated to New Caledonia from Central Pacific.
Died of meningitis abscess of the brain, secondary to the gunshot wound.
