Dorothea Augusta Mary Sander was born on June 24, 1914 near Luana, Iowa, the daughter of George and Augusta (Kamps) Sander. Dorothea attended Cherry Valley Country School. She married Elliot "Pete" Neuhring on June 30, 1938 at State Center, Iowa.

Dorothea was the bookkeeper for her husband while he ran the Neuhring Friendly Service Station in Elkader and also while he ran the Mobil Station in Decorah. Dorothea was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church, where she belonged to Circle and taught Sunday School for several years.

Dorothea died on Saturday, February 16, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Postville, Iowa following a short illness. Funeral services were held on Monday, February 18, 2002, at Decorah Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Glesne and Rev. Brian Robertson officiating.

Dorothea's survivors included her daughter, Shirley Lange and husband Lowell of Hampton, IA, two sons, Dave Neuhring and wife Nancy of Rockford, IL, and Paul Neuhring, Decorah, IA. Three grandchildren: Jeff Lange and wife Beth, Jennifer Ballard and husband Joe and Jason Neuhring and wife Tracy. Three great grandchildren: Samantha, Autumn and Curtis Neuhring and another great grandchild due in March. Also, one sister, Martha Heins of Postville, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents, George and Augusta Sander, her husband Elliot "Pete" Neuhring, and one sister, Mabel Gordon.
