Genora Gulbranson, 98, of Spring Grove

Genora Miranda Gulbranson, 98, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Tweeten Lutheran Healthcare Center, Spring Grove.

She was born Dec. 16, 1913, to Albert and Sophia (Thoreson) Morken in Black Hammer Township near Spring Grove. She attended elementary school in Black Hammer District 69 and graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1933.

On March 1, 1938, she married Julius Gulbranson in the Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer Parsonage, rural Spring Grove. They made their home in Spring Grove Township, where they farmed until moving to Spring Grove in 1978.

Her husband died Oct. 4, 1994. Genora continued to live in her home until 2006, when she moved to be with her daughter, Janice, in Lake City, Minn. In 2009, due to health reasons, returned to Spring Grove and resided at Tweeten Lutheran Healthcare Center.

Genora was baptized and later confirmed with the last class to be confirmed in Norwegian at Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer and joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove after marrying Julius.

She remained active in her church as long as she was able, attending Circle and Love Day and volunteering at Tweeten Lutheran Healthcare Center where she was known for her homemade treats.

She enjoyed baking, especially with family, and spent many hours doing needlework and other crafts.

Survivors include three daughters, Janice (Boyd) Olson of Lake City, Saundra (Gary) Rohrer of Edina, and Barbara (Vernon) Husemoen of Cologne; a son, Dennis (Barb) Gulbranson of Spring Grove; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene Rosaaen; three sisters-in-law, Helen and Margaret Morken and Helen Gulbranson; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters Alma and Edna; five brothers, Eno, Tilford, Clarence, Arnold and Edwin; as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law, a niece and two nephews and a great-grandson.

Funeral services were Oct. 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove with Pastor Stephanie Frey officiating. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

The Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove assisted the family with arrangements.
