Born in the Steele Creek area of Mecklenburg County daughter of Thomas L and Carrie Hovis Stilwell. In addition to her parents she was preceeded in death by her husband of 60 years Edgar F. Smith, Sr.: two brothers Robert Stilwell and Marion Stilwell; and two sisters Dora Hammer and Carrie Louise Presson.
Emily was educated in the Charlotte school system; a Charter Member of Westminister Presbyterian Church and spent her adult life as a Professional Seamstress beginning in the Alterations department for Montaldo's and retiring from The Carriage on the Park.
Mrs. Smith leaves behind two sons to share in the memories of her long life, Edgar Smith Jr., and J Eric Smith and wife Joyce, a grandson Shane Smith, and tow great grandchildren, Ethan Smith and Keira Smith all of Charlotte. She additionally is survived by two brothers, Richard Q. Stilwell and wife Eloise and Roy J. Stilwell, along with many neices and nephews.
