Son of George Wherry Dickey and Jane Adeline Kilpatrick. William married Mary Angeline Hyden on January 11, 1866 in Notla, Cherokee County, North Carolina. Four children were born: Wilford Brownlow Dickey (1866-1940), Cyrus W. Dickey (1867-1890), Mary Ida Dickey (1869-1938) & Willie Caroline Dickey (1870-1931).
