FUNERAL IS HELD FOR A. D. DICKEY Prominent Resident Of Cherokee Passed Away In 84th Year MURPHY. March 23. (Special! Funeral services for Allen Kilpatrick Dickey. 84. prominent Cherokee county in and former state senator from this district, mere held at the First Baptist church here Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock with the Rev. J. C. Ammons, pastor, officiating. W. D Townson was In charge of funeral arrangements Mr. Dickey died Monday morning. Mr. Dickey was born and reared at the old Dickey homestead In the Ranger community. He was active in political affairs and as a cattle dealer and feed broker until he retired a few years ago. In 1910 he moved with his family to Washington, Ga . and stayed there In business until 1923 when he returned. He served as a state senator from this district in the general assembly in 1908. Active pallbearers were: Tom Axley, Clarence Grigsby. Frank. Hadley Sheridan and Fred Dickey. Honorary pallbearers were : Tom Evans. J. M. Stoner. Bass Carroll, E B. Norwell. E. O. Christopher. A. McD. Harshaw. A. W. Mclver, Edgar Dickey, the Rev. J. N. Lee. Lawrence Beal. Poley Dickey. Grant Ledford, and J. W. Lovingood. Surviving are his widow and five daughters, Mrs. Mabel Smalley. of Macon, Ga.. Mrs. Fred Christopher, of Murphy. Mrs. D. G. Montroy. of Atlanta. Ga., Mrs. William Weeks of Chicago, and Mrs. Nell Sneed of Murphy One son. the Rev. Charles Hadley Dickey, minister and author, died about a year ago and was burled here.

Allen Kilpatrick Dickey was a mule trader, cattle dealer and feed broker. He was active in Republican politics and served as a State Senator in 1907-1908.

In 1910, he moved his family to Washington, Georgia, where he was in business till 1925. He returned to Murphy and remained in business there till the 1930's.

Following the death on Sept. 28, 1928, of his second wife, Mary McLeod Dickey, he married Lucy Berrong in Atlanta, about 1930, They lived in Murphy till he died at the age of 83 on March 11, 1938...a year and one day after the death of his son, charles Hadley Dickey.

His obituary in the Murphy newspaper said that with his passing "went the last of the old prominent Dickey family, pioneers of Cherokee County."
