Harvey Wilson Austin Jr., age 77, of Yorktown, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2001. He was born in Annandale, Va., on March 12, 1923, and was the son of the late Harvey Wilson Austin Sr. and Olga Lucille Wood Austin. He was the husband of Alice Gordon Austin who survives. Mr. Austin was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II. He was retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a welding supervisor. He loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener.

In addition to his loving wife of 50 years, he is survived by a son, Harvey Wilson Austin III of Cocoa, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Boron of Charlottesville, and Virginia Bowyer and her husband, Matthew, of Fairfax; two brothers, G.W. "Bill" Austin and his wife, Carole of Covington and Richard S. "Dick" Austin and his wife, Hazel, of West Columbia, S.C.; a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services are to be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at the chapel of Loving Funeral Home in Covington. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening, March 12, at Loving Funeral Home. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army.
