Raymond L. Murphy was a veteran of WWII, the Korean War, and the Cold War. Raymond was a veteran of the U.S. Naval Submarine Service. He served on four different submarines during his 20 year career. He was a member of the Submarine Veterans of WWII, South Carolina Chapter, serving as president of this organization for ten years. He was also a member of the Submarine Veterans Incorporated. He was retired from the U.S. Navy as well as his own personal business. Raymond was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Orangeburg, South Carolina, for over 40 years.

Raymond L. Murphy was married to Betty Castleberry Murphy for 60 years. She died previously in 2006.

He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Sheila Murphy, of Portland, Oregon; and his son, Bruce Murphy, and Bruce's wife, Laurie, and two grandchildren, Corbin & Emerson Murphy of Kewadin, Michigan. He is also survived by his three brothers, George Murphy of Columbia, South Carolina; Jack Murphy of Orangeburg, South Carolina; and Wesley Murphy of Elloree, South Carolina.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, November 16 at Dukes Harley Funeral Home with Rev. Jud Jordan officiating, followed by a military honors ceremony graveside at 2:00 p.m. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home.
