THE SUMMERFIELD SUN (Summerfield, Kansas)- Wednesday, March 17, 1920.

DEATH OF HOMER E. ADAMS.
When the shadows begin to hide themselves and the lights of the Eastern sky tell us that the morning cometh, we know that it is daybreak. So the shadows began to lift and the day that knows o end began to break upon the life of our friend, Homer E. Adams, last Wednesday at 5:50 in the morning. Mr. Adams was born at Weston, Vermont, January 17, 1853, At the age of 21 years he moved to Ninsdale, Illinois, from which place he journeyed to the state of Nevada, where he engaged in the Ore-mining business for four years. His next residence was at Farragut, Iowa, where he remained until 1889, when he came to Summerfield. Mr. Adams came to Summerfield a few weeks after the town had been incorporated and established a general store. After one year in the store, he sold out and engaged in the Lumber business until delicate health caused him to retire from the active business responsibilities in 1909. In the civic life of the community, his counsel and assistance were always for the betterment of conditions. The town records will show that he served as Councilman at various times. He served as City mayor from 1895- 1897. The beautiful shade-trees in the main part of the city Park are the result of his untiring efforts while serving as Mayor.

September 11, 1890 Mr. Adams was united in marriage to Miss Ellen D. Estabrook, of Farragut, Iowa. To this union were born eight children: Nettie and Leala dying in infancy. For several years his health had been failing and twice in recent years he journeyed to a milder climate to escape the hardships of the Kansas winters. It occurs to me that fraternal spirit of our brother and friend manifested itself in his unfailing cheerfulness toward all, and in that continued optimism which saw the bright side of life even amid the breakers of ill-health. As a homemaker, businessman, and friend, he was of strict humor and sterling worth. His memory will be cherished by the community in the development of which he played so active a part during the best years of his life. Their remains to mourn his departure the wife, six children, one brother, two sisters and a host of friends. Services were held Saturday afternoon at the home conducted by Rev. Piper. Interment was made in the Summerfield cemetery.
