Born December 6, 1938, in Betsy Layne, he was the son of the late Abram and Malta Bays Cole.
He was of the Protestant faith; a veteran; and retired security guard for Plantation Patterns in Wadley, Alabama.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Reed Cole. Other survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law: Johnny Cole of Shelby, Ohio; Jody (Linda) Cole of Mansfield, Ohio; and Brian Hawkins of Arizona; four daughters and sons-in-law: Thelma (Mark) Ball of Galion, Ohio; Ruby (Bill) Long of Plymouth, Ohio; Cathy (Allen) Feltner of Tiro, Ohio; and Nadene (Scott Phelps) Johnson of Shelby, Ohio; two brothers and seven sisters: James Cole of London; Jimmy Lee Cole and Imogene Hawkins, both of Shelby, Ohio; Leora Owens, Lucille Boyd, Judith Shepherd, Phyllis Jean Adkins, and Helen Mullins, all of Martin; and Sylvia Carter of Ashland, Kentucky; six stepchildren, 17 grandchildren, 12 stepgrandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: Monroe Cole, Woodrow Cole, Betty Jean Cole, and Ora Lee Cole.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 22, at 1 p.m., at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Don Crisp officiating.
Burial was in the Martin Cemetery, in Martin. Visitation was at the funeral home.
