A native of Madison County, she had lived in Haywood County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late William Grady Coward, Sr. and Nola Suttles Coward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Jackson Ferguson, Sr. who died in 1965 and two sons, Dale Ferguson who died in 1997 and Ronald Ferguson who died in 1959. She was a retired cook at the Haywood Rest Home with 22 years service. She was also a member of Ball City Baptist Church in Madison County.
She is survived by five daughters, six sons, two sisters, a twin sister, two half-sisters, 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Entombment will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville.
