Willis was the son of John "Dennis" Anderson & Margaret Post (daughter of John Beaver Post & Caroline "Carrie" Woodall). He was reared at Bald Hill in Cherokee Co., where he attended school.

Willis married Rhoda "Almus" Howe on Dec. 9, 1933, in Tahlequah; they had two sons: Frank Allen Anderson & Billy Joe Anderson, and 5 grandchildren: Debra Anderson Hinkle, Donna Anderson Alday, Delores Anderson McFarland, Wesley Anderson, & Debbie Anderson Riley; and 17 great-grandchildren & 6 great-great grandchildren as of 2003.

Willis helped build the Fort Gibson & Tenkiller Ferry Dams, was a heavy equipment mechanic, and worked at Camp Gruber, the city of Muskogee, and Muskogee Co., OK.

Willis & his wife Almus moved to Muskogee, OK, in 1950 where they lived until their deaths. He was a member of the Midland Valley Baptist Church and Masonic Alpha Lodge 12 in Fort Gibson, OK.

Other children of Willis' are: Willa Dean Anderson Ketcher, Linda Anderson Campbell, and Mary Anderson Owens.
