David was the second child and eldest son of Thomas and Rosamond Weddle. He and his brother Thompson were the administrators of their father's estate. His middle name is sometimes listed as "Dolling".
David was one of the first Justices-of-the-Peace in Brown County, Indiana and a Deputy County Commissioner. He was an elder in the Christian Church and preached for over thirty years. He and his wife Mary Sullivan migrated to Oregon in a covered wagon after the Civil War.
David kept a diary which was used as source material by Elizabeth Mueting for her genealogy of the Weddle family, compiled in THE WEDDLE BOOK.
David died at Grand Rhonde Valley, Oregon. His wife went to Tieton near Yakima with son Francis following David's passing. His exact grave location has been lost-to-history.
