Einar Ditlef Anderson was born in Clay County, MN 26 Feb 1874. He was the son of Jens Johannes Anderson and Pethrine Lovise Eliassen Anderson.

He was the third of four children born to them. His sisters were: Ida C. 22 Aug 1870 – 20 Aug 1872, Anna Pauline 12 May 1872 – 13 Dec 1947 and Kathinka Christine 7 Sep 1877 – 27 Nov 1930.

Einar moved with his family to Norman County when he was six years old. He attended grade school and Hope Academy at Moorhead, MN. He went on to attend Caton Business College in Minneapolis. He taught at least one term of country school.

By 1900 he was running a general store in Perley with his cousin, John B. Hovden. They were in partnership until 1912 when John moved to Twin Valley and opened his own general store there. Einar became the sole owner of the Perley store and continued in the general store business for about 50 years.

He married Nellie Alma Young at Crookston, MN 28 Jun 1906. Nellie Alma Young was born in Medo Township, Blue Earth County, MN 4 Jun 1881 to Thomas J. Young and Marietta McCullock Hichens Young. Her father was born in Quebec, Canada and her mother in Minnesota.

Nellie moved as a small child with her family to Crookston, MN. She was educated and grew up at Crookston. She also taught school at Crookston. She met Einar when she was substitute teaching in Perley for a two week period. They made their home in Perley and Einar continued in the general store.

They became the parents of two children: Helen D. 29 Apr 1910 – 10 Jun 2001 and Donald Einar 23 Feb 1915 – 2 Jul 1961 (Alace Katherine Strommen 19 Apr 1916 – 16 Dec 2001).

Einar was active in the Perley community. He served as Councilman and Mayor of Perley for several terms. He was the first president of the Red River Valley Cooperative Power Association. Einar also had served as a director of the Halstad Fire Insurance Co. and was a director at the First State Bank of Perley. He was village treasurer at the time of his death 12 Apr 1964 at Moorhead, MN. His cause of death was a stroke.

Funeral services for Einar were held April 15, 1964, at the Kirkebo Lutheran Church, Perley, MN. Pastor Herbert Larson officiated. The pallbearers were: Oliver Lee, Ralph Woodcock, Ernest Houglum, Arthur Ericksen, David Jacobson and Nick Nelson.

After Einar's death Nellie continued to live in her home in Perley. Nellie was very active in her church and her community. She moved in 1967 to Moorhead to live with her daughter, Helen. She continued to live there until she passed away at the age of 99 23 Feb 1981 in her home.

Funeral services were held for Nellie at the Kirkebo Lutheran Church, Perley, MN 26 Feb 1981. Pastor Lance Yohe officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Earl Hovden, Ernest Houglum, David Jacobson, Henry Jacobson, Arthur Rensvold and Hjalmer Strand.
