Hubert enlisted in the US Navy on 28 Aug 1942 and was assigned duty on LST 446.
After his military service, he became a plumber.
Hubert was married twice: He first married Anita Seaborn in 1944 while he was home on leave from the US Navy; they were later divorced. He married second to Ruby Howard and they had 3 children.
About 1954 Hubert set up his own business as a plumber in Amarillo, TX.
In 1963 he and his wife were staying in a motel where they were visiting his brother L. B. Camp. A carbon tetrachloride glass fire extinguisher fell of the wall in their room and broke on the floor. Hubert cleaned up the mess but was poisoned both by inhalation and by contact. They slept with a window open to air out the room but they both awoke very sick which they thought was food poisoning. Hubert died of kidney failure due to the exposure and his wife died years later also from the complications due to the exposure.
