Charles Edgar Ard was born in Mississippi, the son of Charles Edgar and Annie Short Yeates Ard...he had the following siblings: Ruth Chandler Ard, 1901 and Jesse S Ard 1909 both born in Mississippi.

Charles Edgar Ard's father Charles Sr was listed as being a teacher in the 1900 census of Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, he and Annie had no children and her mother Ruth Yeates was living w/ them. The family was still living in Mississippi in 1910 but by 1920 Charles Sr had moved his family to Anniston, Calhoun County, Alabama.

In 1930 Charles was found living with his widowed mother who was head of the household in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama census. Charles had already met and married Frances Louise Kirby Roberts and they had one daughter, Elizabeth Ann age 1-8/12 months at the time of this census. Charles had at least one brother, Jesse S Ard who was 21 and living with his mother Annie at the same time.

In 1940 he and Frances now had another child, a son, Charles Jr, age 9, and they had moved out of his mother's house but only next door as she is listed as hoh in the household just before Charles and Frances. Charles' brother Jesse was no longer living with either household.

Charles' mother Annie died in 1956 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama and her body was taken back to Mississippi to be buried with her husband Charles Sr who had been taken there to be buried when he died in Calhoun County, Alabama in 1922.
