In the 1880 Lumpkin, Stewart County, Georgia census Charles Edgar Ard is 9 years old having been born in Georgia and living w/his parents George W Ard, 46, and Sarah M 36, his sisters Annie, 12, Julia C, 10, Sarah M, 7, Mary J, 4, Georgia, 2, and brother Arphax 2 months.
On November 1899, he married Annie Short Yeates in Starkville, Oktibbeha County, Mississippi.
In 1900 they are in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, having been married less than a year, his mother-in-law Ruth, now a widow is living with them. Charles gives his occupation as a teacher. By April 22, 1910 Charles 38,and Annie 32, have three children, Ruth Chandler, 9 born in Georgia, and Charles Edgar, Jr 7 and Jesse S who is 10 months old, both Charles Jr and Jesse were born in Mississippi. Charles gives his occupation as an architect.
By 1920 Charles had moved his family to Anniston in Calhoun County, Alabama where he worked in a foundry, probably as an architect or an engineer, this most likely being the reason to leave Mississippi. Anniston has 3 foundries and is considered a front runner in the foundry industry, times are good for Charles and his family and Annie has 3 servants living with them to help her out.
Charles Sr passes on January 15, 1922 and Annie takes his remains back to Starkville, Oktibbeha County, Mississippi to be buried.
