VIOLET E. MURRAY

Violet E. Murray, 80, of Three Forks passed away Sunday, March 5, 2000, at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. Cause of death was from complications of the flu and pneumonia. Vi was born Dec. 23, 1919, in Three Forks to Charles Sherman and Susan Lily Jewett of Willow Creek.
One of 12 children, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Emery, Marvin, Orville, Charles III "Son" and Harold; and three sisters, Bessie, Rosalie and Theodora.
In her younger years, Violet attended the famous Lane School House and graduated from Harlowton High School in 1938. Violet married Melvin T. Murray of Three Forks on June 16, 1940, at Holy Family Rectory in Three Forks. Melvin and Violet then settled in Three Forks, where Melvin was employed as a trainman for the Milwaukee Railroad. Melvin passed away May 11, 1999, at the family ranch near Willow Creek.
In her youth, Vi was surrounded by nature, and she enjoyed the outdoors, working and living at the family ranch. An important part of her life was enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen and son-in-law, Bill Crowley of Dillon, and their daughters, Teri Christnacht of Mexico City, Angela Matteo of Portland, Ore., and son, John Crowley of Mesa, Ariz.; her son, Gregory and daughter-in-law, Carol Arthun Murray of Bozeman, and their son, Dr. Bret Murray at Creighton University, Neb., and daughter, Kyla Murray of Gonzaga University, Spokane, Wash.; her son, Brent and daughter-in-law, Jean Uhlrich Murray of Great Falls, and their son, Brian Murray of Great Falls, and daughters, Colleen Murray and Kathleen Murray at the University of Washington in Seattle. She is also survived by three sisters, Leulla Kirell of Bozeman, Labina Cook and Agnes Johnson of Helena; sisters-in-law, Margaret Murray of Deer Lodge and Sereva "Mick" DeBoer of Helena.
K & L Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at K & L Mortuary in Three Forks. Vi's nephew, Father John E. Murray, will perform a Mass of Celebration at Holy Family Parish at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10. Interment will follow in Willow Creek Mount Green cemetery.
