Actress. Cathy Lewis grew to adulthood at Spokane, Washington. In 1935 she moved to Los Angeles, California, and in 1939 began a long career as a stage, motion picture, and television actress. She started as a singer with Kay Kyser's famous band, and quickly moved on to acting jobs in the radio entertainment industry, which was then in its heyday. Following a number of film roles in the 1940's, Cathy returned to radio and is perhaps best remembered for her portrayal of the character "Jane Stacy" in the wildly popular My Friend Irma radio show from 1947 until 1954. During the 1950's she made numerous appearances on television programs, and was a cast member of the Hazel comedy series from 1961 until 1965, playing the recurring role of the character "Deidre Baxter Thompson." Cathy had many friends in Hollywood's entertainment community, and enjoyed a reputation as a serious professional with a thorough knowledge of her craft. On April 30, 1943, at Los Angeles, California, Cathy began a fifteen-year marriage with Elliott Lewis, a widely-respected pioneer in the radio entertainment business who later became a motion picture and television actor, writer, producer, and director. The Lewises had no children, and were divorced in 1958. Cathy succumbed to breast cancer at 52.
