The Cox family moved from South Carolina to Georgia sometime before 1840, and settled in Butts County. Mary Amanda Cox married Richard Posey Mann, and Nancy L Cox married Nathan E Crane, in a double ceremony on November 29, 1846, in Butts County.

Nathan and Nancy became the parents of eight children: 5 boys and 3 girls. They moved, in the 1850s, to Henry County, and are found there in the 1860 US Census. By 1870, the family was living in Clayton County. Nancy's husband died in 1873, she remained on their farm in Clayton County until her death in 1904.
