He was the first born child of John Mason,Jr. and Catherine Macomb, the first grandchild of Maj. Gen. Alexander Macomb and g-grandson of George Mason of Gunston Hall, Virginia. He died at the home of his Grandfather. Gen.John Mason, Sr. on Analostan Island. He was buried at the Old Presbyterian Burying Ground in Georgetown and reintered here on May 12, 1892, along with other family members, when the Burying Ground was closed by the city.
