1832 - Elizabeth, was born about 1832 in Indiana, the daughter of Joel and Nancy Lake of North Carolina.

1852 - Elizabeth Lake married 1: Francis Marion Gaines, on Dec. 23, 1852, Indiana. They were married by Solomon Lucas.

Children: Joel Henry Gaines, b. 1854, Illinois, Clemency Ann Gaines, b. 1856, Illinois, Lucinda Gaines, b. 1859 Illinois, and George W. Gaines, b. 1860 Illinois.

1862 - Francis Marion Gaines died Oct. 8, 1862 in Kentucky from wounds received in during a Civil War battle while serving with the 123rd Illinois Infantry (Company I).

1865 - Elizabeth Lake-Gaines married 2: Vincent Scott, Aug. 28, 1865, Coles County, Illinois. Mrs. Elizabeth (Lake) Gaines was Vincent's 3rd wife.

Vincent and Elizabeth left Illinois for Kansas between 1865-1867 with Daniel Scott, age 17 (his son w/1st wife Susanna), along with Elizabeth's children Joel Henry Gaines age 11, Clemency Ann Gaines age 9, Lucinda Gaines age 7 and George W Gaines age 5.

1867 - Robert Jefferson Scott was born 1867, In Neosho County, Canville Township near Chanute, Kansas. (They are recorded in the Spring 1870 US Census Kansas, Neosho Co, Town of Canville.)

1870 - Elizabeth's husband Vincent Scott (age 64) died Aug, 1870 as a result of a farming accident (according to family memories). Elizabeth was left to tend to her family and she was pregnant with twins. In March, 1871 she gave birth to twin boys - Francis A. Scott and Charlie E. Scott. The boys died a few days later. These boys were buried beside their father (Vincent Scott). The three of them lie across the road from Leanna Christian Church in Leanna Cemetery.

Elizabeth and her family remained in Kansas thru 1875. By 1880 she and the children had returned to Illinois and were living in Shelby County, Ash Grove Township. Based on family information, Elizabeth LAKE died when her son Robert J SCOTT was age 13. This would be 1880/81. It is believed that Elizabeth is buried around Mattoon in Cole County, Illinois.
