Father of Dr. James Bruton Gambrell, the Baptist preacher. Dr. James Bruton Gambrell was the preacher at Cherry Creek shortly after the Civil War was over. Dr. Gambrell and Joel Halbert Gambrell both were Baptist preachers who ended up in Texas after the war. Joel Buton had three other sons who were killed during the civil war with one that, at this time, cannot be located. William Eber Gambrell was shot in the Battle of Chickamauga on the TN-GA border and the other was Ira D. Gambrell who was shot in the middle of the Blackwater River near Suffock, VA. Ira was buried in Shiloh Cemetery in Isle of Wright, VA, in an un-marked grave.
